Going to the gym for the first time can be intimidating, exciting, and/or rewarding experience. Whether you want to lose weight, gain muscle, improve your health, or just have fun, the gym can offer you many benefits. However, you may also have some questions and doubts about how to start, what to do, and what to expect. In this blog post, we will give you some tips and advice on how to start the gym for the first time and make the most of your experience. Before you head to the gym, there are some things you should do to prepare yourself and make your visit more enjoyable and effective.
1. Set a goal
Having a clear and realistic goal can help you stay motivated and focused. For example, you may want to lose 10 pounds, run a 5K, or bench press 60kg, or just feel more confident in the gym. Whatever your goal is, make sure it is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). Write it down and keep track of your progress.
2. Choose the right gym
Not all gyms are the same. All gyms will have a combination of the following: equipment, group training, amenities, personal training and programs. Some may be more crowded, expensive, or far away than others. Do some research and compare different gyms in your area. Look for one that suits your budget, location, schedule, and preferences. You can also ask for a free trial or a gym tour to see if you like the gym before you sign up.

3. Get the right gear
You don't need to spend a fortune on fancy clothes or accessories to go to the gym. However, you do need some basic items that will make your workout more comfortable, confident & safe. These include:
 - A pair of sneakers that fit well and support your feet. Avoid wearing sandals, flip-flops, or dress shoes.
 - A breathable and flexible outfit that allows you to move freely and doesn't chafe or irritate your skin. Avoid wearing jeans, dresses, or anything too tight or loose.
 - A water bottle to keep you hydrated. Avoid drinking soda, juice, or alcohol before or during your workout.
 - A towel to wipe your sweat and clean the equipment after you use it. Prime + and Evolve + memberships will provide towels for you, but you can also bring your own.
 - A locker or a bag to store your valuables and personal items. You need to bring your own lock or pay for one at the desk.
We hope this helps you have a great first gym workout at your new gym whether it is with us or another gym in the country :) Click below to book in your free gym trial with us at Bromley Fitness Centre
